The Senior Programme Officer from the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT), Mr. Paul Mallimbo, has spoken on the violation of freedom of expression during the breakfast debate held at the British Council Auditorium at 7:30 am early today.

"Freedom of expression can only be violated if it violates other rights," he said. A violation of freedom of information normally goes hand in hand with other violations, particularly media freedom and freedom of assembly to meet with other people.

Sadly, the current status of freedom of expression in Tanzania is vague, and no one can guarantee your freedom after speaking. The undefined status of the country has caused fear among different social groups, including politicians, activists, and journalists. Such that Mr. Malimbo quoted the late Iddi Amin Dada, who once said, "You have freedom of speech, but freedom after speech, that I can't guarantee you."
